This Saturday, November 20, 2021, the Rector of the University of Kinshasa, the Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe Ntumba, undertook a tour of the Unikin Sports Club facilities.
Accompanied by the Mayor of Plateau des Résidents and under the guidance of the Director of Sports, the Rector of Unikin thoroughly understood the totally precarious situation of the facilities of this sports structure and the lamentable conditions in which the athletes of Unikin train:
- Total insalubrity.
- The total lack of adequate equipment for proper training.
- The complete lack of financial and technical support for the participation of athletes in major competitions.
- A completely dilapidated infrastructure.
- No medical assistance even though the University Clinics and the Faculty of Medicine are nearby.
- Lighting problem preventing athletes from training in the evening.
Indeed, "Les Phacochères", the generic name for all Unikin athletes across all disciplines, are encountering enormous difficulties in organizing their training sessions as well as in their participation in different levels of competition (interuniversity, provincial, national, regional, world).
During this visit, which was very comforting for the entire university community met there, the Rector of Unikin expressed certain wishes and fundamental principles for an effective revival of sporting activities within Unikin:
- The promotion of integral development.
- Massive participation of students from Unikin and other university institutions in sports activities.
- Promoting women's participation, gender must be evident everywhere.
- Sport is a significant vehicle for student cohesion (culture of peace).
Several sports disciplines were present and numerous demonstrations were carried out:
- Basketball.
- Volleyball.
- Judo
- Karate
- Tennis
The Red Cross team was also present for the training of first aiders.
The Unikin Management Committee, represented by the Rector, promised to consider ways to renovate the sports complex and provide new opportunities for athletes to succeed. The Rector was presented with numerous awards and medals, demonstrating the athletic potential of universities.
Many family photos were taken on this occasion.
