The degree of associate professor of higher education in medicine conferred on CT Bernard Kianu Phanzu
The rector of the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN), Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe Ntumba, conferred on Thursday in the promotions room of Mgr Luc Gillon, to the head of works Bernard Kianu Phanzu, the grade of associate professor of higher education in medicine, at the end of the public defense of an aggregation thesis in medicine entitled " Influence of insulin resistance on left ventricular remodeling and life prognosis associated with left ventricular hypertrophy ».
The recipient indicated in this thesis that arterial hypertension (HTA) is responsible for left ventricular remodeling while left ventricular hypertrophy, one of the prototypes of remodeling, has a prerogative prognostic value.
This research, he said, aimed to determine the influence of insulin resistance on left ventricular remodeling and the life prognosis associated with left ventricular hypertrophy.
The applicant stated that in the results of this study, he used behavioral determinants due to smoking, dietary determinants due to the consumption of fruits, vegetables and daily intake of cooking salt, hemodynamic determinants due to the lack of control of arterial hypertension and biological determinants.
For a health policy of access to a rich diet
To contribute to improving the management of hypertensive heart disease, Dr. Bernard Kianu Phanzu recommended: establishing a health policy promoting awareness, availability and accessibility for all of low-salt diets, low in red meat and rich in fruits, vegetables and fish.
This policy will also aim to promote a social and professional environment that discourages a sedentary lifestyle, to make available in hospitals medical equipment that allows the diagnosis of insulin resistance, to promote screening programs for cardiovascular risk factors and to support research on the role of insulin resistance in the genesis of heart disease and cardiovascular risk factors.
The applicant also recommended that doctors and other health professionals systematically assess insulin sensitivity in hypertensive patients, systematically look for left ventricular hypertrophy in hypertensive patients and clearly include its prevention or reduction by all possible hygienic, dietary and pharmacological means among their therapeutic objectives.
Professors Benjamin Longo Mbenza and Jean-René Mbuyamba are respectively the promoter and co-promoter of this thesis.
