INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM: Thomas SANKARA and Development
CALL FOR PAPERS
From July 26 to 28, 2022 in Ouagadougou
Background and rationale
Thomas Sankara University, through the Center for Economic and Social Studies, Documentation and Research (CEDRES), is launching a call for papers as part of the organization of the international conference on Thomas Sankara and Development. A politician, Thomas Sankara had made the continued development of
African peoples the cardinal point of his struggle and his action.
Today, nations are all immersed in economic liberalism with various facets, depending on the American, Chinese, or Latin American models. However, the results in terms of well-being and improved living conditions are of varying degrees of success, depending on the context. To this end, the least developed countries are still mired in development models with sometimes very mixed results. Health, security, educational, cultural, and employment promotion policy schemes are promising, but results are slow to materialize. This situation justifies the idea of rethinking the ideal paths to sustainable prosperity for African countries.
Nearly four decades after the proclamation of independence, African countries are still searching for their ideal model of development.
Thomas Sankara's vision responds to a systemic and holistic approach that draws on economic, social, moral, environmental, historical, cultural, political, and many other aspects. Inspired by the Marxist/communist movement, he proposes a development model whose pillars are essentially based on the promotion of endogenous values and resources on the one hand and the synergy of actions on the other.
With the aim of questioning current development models in light of that advocated by Thomas Sankara, this international conference proposes research areas based on the themes addressed by the leader of the Burkinabe revolution. This conference is part of a multidisciplinary perspective and papers are expected from economists, lawyers, political scientists, managers, sociologists, anthropologists, geographers and linguists, etc.
