The weekly research magazine, the first rankings of the University of Kinshasa are coming

The May 16 deadline has been extended to May 20, 2022, to respond to a last-minute craze regarding the submission of scientific deliverables for the period from October 2021 to the end of May 2022. We will really have to get used to this pleasant rite, which is also mandatory at the institutional level. From now on, at the University of Kinshasa, we do not fight against excellence!

And the whole week was punctuated by this event. Don't try to stay by the wayside. You all know this wisdom: "If you want to get there fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go in a group." At Unikin, we opted for a mix of the two; we have no time to waste!

The SGAC is completing a marathon week today, in a remote workshop, as part of the LMD, aimed at training trainers at Unikin. No connection with research, some would say. But make no mistake, these latter all wear the hat of researchers. For us, there is no gap, and therefore almost no distinction, between these different missions that each of us is called upon to accomplish.

We participated at the beginning of the week, then followed remotely and encouraged all the VDE and some experts, gathered around Professor Eustache Banza, our SGAC.

Two Exceptional Faculty Councils, led by the Rector, were held this week, Thursday 19th at the Faculty of Social, Administrative and Political Sciences, and Friday 20th at the Faculty of Law. Participation was massive at these two meetings, an opportunity here to salute the involvement of the corporation. We can easily read the firm, shared desire to engage in this path of the Unikin-Solution, advocated by the Management Committee, as recalled by Mr. Rector, Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe. This presupposes a common acceptance of the operating methods in academic, research, administrative and financial management.

Concerning Research specifically, These occasions allowed us to return or exchange, again, on the Rankings (trying to escape them could only cause vain exhaustion..) and the Doctoral Schools. A rectorial decision is imminent, it will set the terms on doctoral training and the functioning of the Doctoral Schools at Unikin. No need therefore to rush this or that workshop for DES, DEA, or others, called to integrate into this organization of the 3rd cycle training. There is indeed a pilot (and not a thousand) in the plane!

Indexing of all Unikin journals, another current point, is essential; Congratulations to everyone who has already taken the train. It is up to the VDRs to become more involved to ensure this matter is resolved quickly.

Research activities and major scientific events have become almost daily at Unikin:

  • First of all, however, let us have a pious thought for our Masters and researchers who left us this week, among whom our Master, The Professor Mpiana Kenababo of the Faculty of Sciences. We renew here all our condolences to his biological family, to the Faculty of Sciences and to our entire community. Academic tributes and body removal planned for this Tuesday, May 24, 2022, from 9:00 a.m., at the morgue of the University Clinics of Kinshasa. Eternal felicity to his soul;
  • Wednesday, May 18, 2022, Monekoso Room, The Department of Internal Medicine, through its Hepato-Gastroenterology department, headed by Prof. Dr. Antoine Tshimpi, held a scientific day on " news in onco-digestive diseases ", as a prelude to World Digestive Health Day, scheduled for May 29. This is an opportunity to become aware of a steady increase in the prevalence of certain diseases, such as digestive cancers, in our communities. This requires us to readjust and update our research and training., for optimal care of our compatriots.
  • Friday, May 20, 2022, Eléais, the molecular biology department of the Faculty of Medicine (LBMFM) of Unikin, headed by Prof Dr Georges Mvumbi, held a scientific morning on " Monitoring molecular markers of malaria resistance ", another pillar in the fight against malaria;
  • Three new PhDs arrived this week, via the Faculty of Medicine:
    • Dr. Doudou Yobi (Research into molecular markers of resistance to Plasmodium Falciparum antimalarials in targeting monitoring of therapeutic efficacy in the Democratic Republic of Congo);
    • Dr. Guy Ikambo (Cross-sectional and quasi-experimental observational study of childhood overweight and obesity in schools in Kinshasa), and;
    • Dr. Aimée Kahindo, who sent us a breeze from… China, where she worked on “Oligosaccharides-based therapy as a novel approach inhibiting Yersinia pestis dissemination in pneumonic plague) ». She will make a solemn restitution to us upon her return home.
  • The University of Kinshasa is developing 13 innovations to fight malaria. Bravo, artists!
    • Activities of the Center for Research and Technological Innovation in Environment and Health Sciences (CRITESS) from the University of Kinshasa, led by Professor Patrick Memvanga, were honored this week. For more details, ifdd.francophonie.org but we will come back to that in a little while.
  • Remember (upcoming workshops)
  1. Continuation of work on the Development Plan for the 145 territories, contributions from Unikin (Professors Ngombe, Bisa, Ntoto and SGR Experts);
  2. Other projects in progress:
    1. What solutions to resolve traffic jams in the city-province of Kinshasa; contributions from Unikin" (Prof Emina, SGR experts);
    2. Unikin-Manioc Project (Yandzu Professors and SGR Experts)
  • Upcoming scientific activity: Electoral mapping (Prof Banyaku and other experts from Unikin and SGR)

Please note: Activities at Unikin will be suspended tomorrow, Monday, May 23, 2022, due to security requirements on site.

Have a good end of Sunday everyone.

Proud to be from Unikin, the eldest daughter!
