Solemn publication of the RANKINGS of researchers at the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN) and workshop to launch the ethics policy and fight against plagiarism at UNIKIN

In accordance with the programming of scientific research activities by the Management Committee, the General Secretariat in charge of Research at the University of Kinshasa (Unikin) organized this Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in the Mgr Luc Gillon Promotions Room, a solemn ceremony of publication of the Unikin researchers rankings coupled with the launch workshop for the anti-plagiarism campaign and the fight against anti-values.

While positively sanctioning the merits of the excellent researchers and the excellent structures of our Alma Mater for this first semester of the academic year 2021-2022, the aim of this workshop is to recognize and boost healthy scientific competitiveness and to inform the scholarly community about the new institutional policy of fighting against anti-values (including plagiarism) through the specialized software acquired by our Alma Mater.

The date of August 30, 2022 will remain engraved in the collective memory of ESU-RDC, such as the words of Professor Bisa Kibul of the SSPA faculty and winner of this ranking. Indeed, this very first publication of the biannual ranking of Unikin Faculties and Researchers aims to promote excellence in this Alma Mater by following the spirit and letter of the resolutions of the ESU general assembly organized last year in Lubumbashi.

This ranking was based on ten deliverables, namely:

  • Articles published in indexed journals,
  • International conferences with communication,
  • Conferences, colloquiums, symposiums organized at Unikin or elsewhere in the country,
  • Research projects set up with fundraising,
  • Virtual presence and scholarly community,
  • The viability of journals,
  • Expertise and service to the community,
  • Prizes, patents and appointments in international scientific structures,
  • Other research activities (DEA/Theses management),
  • Ethics and human values (testimonies from peers and absence of disciplinary sanctions).

Thus, the ten best biannual Senior Researchers of Unikin are:

  • Professor Muyembe Tamfum (Director of INRB, Faculty of Medicine),
  • Professor Raphael Tshimanga (Director of the Higher School of Water, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences),
  • Professor Benjamin Longo Mbenza (Cardiologist, Faculty of Medicine),
  • Professor Sylvain Shomba Kinyamba (CDS and MES, Faculties of Social, Political and Administrative Sciences),
  • Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe Ntumba (Rector of Unikin, Faculty of Medicine),
  • Professor Michel Bisa Kibul (Faculty of Social, Political and Administrative Sciences),
  • Professor Jean-Robert Makulo Risasi (Director of the University Clinics of Kinshasa, Faculty of Medicine),
  • Professor Antoine Thimpi Wola (Secretary General for Research at Unikin, Faculty of Medicine),
  • Professor Ernest Sumaili Kiswaya (Editor-in-Chief of the African Journal of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine),
  • Professor Patrick Memvanga Bondo (CRITEES, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences).

Junior researchers, including apprentices, doctoral students, assistants, and project managers, were awarded prizes. The top ten were: Daniel Mukadi, Harry-César Kayembe Ntumba, Zone Bize, Kinganda Lusamaki, Nlandu Mayamba, Lofembe Benkenya, Kilola Mbunga, Bebouka Izizag, Nkuba Ndaye, and Zola Matuvanga.

The four best Faculties of Unikin are:

  • Medicine with 35% of objectives achieved,
  • Veterinary medicine 28%,
  • Agricultural Sciences 23%,
  • Social, Political and Administrative Sciences 22%.

Some excellences were noted at the Faculty level. For example:

  • Faculty of Law: Professors Yvon Mingashang, Ntirumenyerwa Mihigo.
  • Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences: Professors Ngoma Binda, Babongisila.
  • Faculty of Economics and Management: Professor Bernard Lututala.
  • Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences: Professors Memvanga Bondo, Nadège Ngombe Kabamba, Nswadi, Nkanga, Mutwale, …

Various presentations and speeches took place during this ceremony:

  • The Rector of Unikin, the Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe and the Secretary General looking for the Professor Antoine Tshimpi Wola explained the objective pursued by the Management Committee, in particular the emulation of Researchers and Faculties, the visibility of Unikin with a view to considering the advantages of publication on the international ranking of the best universities in Africa and the world, to stimulate teamwork which is an essential asset for research, to popularize the results of research.
  • “Ethics and Scientific Research at the Heart of Societal Progress” with the Professor Abbot Leonard Santedi, Rector of UCC.
  • “Plagiarism in all its forms, Prevention, detection and sanctions policy at Unikin” with the Professor Michel Bisa Kibul.
  • “Anti-plagiarism regulations within Unikin doctoral schools” with the Professor Bernard Lututala.
  • Implementation of the Compilatio Anti-plagiarism software at Unikin with the Professor Patrick Memvanga Bondo.

To close this ceremony, the CT Lofembe Benkanya, Advisor to the Minister of ESU, stressed the importance that the Minister of ESU attaches to this ranking activity while hoping to see all the universities in the country achieve a national ranking of Congolese universities. He also encouraged the Unikin Management Committee for this emulation session.

A major annual ranking will take place during the official academic degree conferral ceremony.
