THE UNIVERSITY OF KINSHASA AT PRECOP 27, Unikin's expertise as a solution to the problems of the Congo Basin
More than 64 ministers responsible for environmental and climate issues came from around the world to take part in the PRECOP 27 conference held in Kinshasa, capital of the DRC, from October 3 to 5, 2022.
This forum focused in particular on adaptation to climate impacts, climate finance, environmental losses and damage, but also on questions relating to the mobilization of the necessary resources to enable the Congo Basin to take an active part in the energy transition for its green development and the creation of jobs for young people.
This 3-day meeting allowed participants to provide guidance on the various themes (forests, biodiversity, protected areas, ecosystem sources, energy, etc.) which will constitute the agenda for debate during the COP27 planned for next November at Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt. It is in this context that the Rector of the University of Kinshasa, the Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe Ntumba, presented the expertise of this alma mater as a solution to the various problems of environmental management, biodiversity and climate change in the Congo Basin. He reported on the research that has produced results likely to address the challenges and contribute to the vision of development advocated by the Head of State., Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. “Unikin Solution for the Congo Basin and Resilience to Climate Change”.
Facing the press, the Rector of Unikin declared that the solutions recommended by the Head of State at COP 26, presenting the DRC as a solution country through its waters and forests, position Unikin as "Unikin solution " because it will deepen the prophetic message of the Head of State by operationalizing this wish.
Furthermore, the Rector of Unikin maintains that simply bringing scientists together is enough to produce extraordinary abilities and a force capable of moving even mountains. For him, Unikin has just proven that its experts are capable of guiding and influencing the decisions that must be made by those whose vocation is to absolutely govern the country.
The holding of the PRECOP 27 in Kinshasa consolidated the DRC's environmental leadership at the continental and global levels, which will enable the conclusion of bilateral and multilateral partnerships with the aim of advancing agendas concerning mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
