After the Prime Minister's visit, Mr. Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde on the Unikin site on October 4, it was the turn of the delegation of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) to familiarize themselves with the progress of the preparatory work for the IXth Francophonie Games scheduled in Kinshasa from July 28 to August 6, 2023.
Driven by Mr. Geoffroi Montpetit, the delegation of theOIF was received this Wednesday, October 12, 2022 by the Unikin management committee, including the Secretary General for Research, the Professor Antoine Tshimpi Wola and the Administrative Secretary General, the Professor Bruno LapikaAfter a brief working session at the rectorate, a tour of the facilities that will host the 9th Francophone Games followed. These include the student residences and the sports complex.
Facing the press, the representative of theOIF recalled that his organization has been working for decades with the Francophone University Agency (AUF) and universities around the world, hence the partnership with Unikin is welcome. He then indicated that this visit was part of this ongoing dialogue to ensure the smooth running of the work for the effective holding of these games. The most critical and important point is the construction of the athletes' villages, the games village, which is a central element of the Francophone Games system. They should be located on the Unikin site. This decision must be examined by the steering group composed of experts. If the proposal made is in accordance with the specifications, that is to say, the planned facilities comply with the standards described in the specifications, then the Permanent Council of the Francophonie can make a decision.
The Director of the National Committee of the IXth Francophonie Games (CNJF), Mr. Isidore Kwandja Ngembo, present in this delegation, reassured the public in these terms: "work will be done to upgrade these infrastructures, in accordance with the recommendations of the International Committee of the Francophone Games so that the athletes are housed in acceptable conditions." In addition, he recalled that it is an advantage that the homes were rehabilitated at the initiative of the Head of State, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, who made a remarkable gesture for the students of Unikin in particular and Congolese youth in general.
For his part, the Secretary General for Research, the Professor Antoine Tshimpi Wola expressed confidence and very much hope that the choice made at the highest level of the State will be accepted and that we can experience these games together with the university community but also the whole country. Sharing the values of sport is an asset. This meeting is eagerly awaited.
