Virologist Jean-Jacques Muyembe has received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Montpellier (France).

Professor MUYEMBE TAMFUM received the title of Doctor on December 9, 2022 honoris causa at the University of Montpellier (France), a model with a truly rich scientific career in which he has been at the forefront of several emerging diseases.

Professor Jean-Jacques Muyembe has been involved in all the major scientific and health battles fought in the Democratic Republic of Congo, including AIDS, Covid and Ebola.

Belonging to the first generation of Congolese doctors trained after independence at the University of Lovanium (now UNIKIN). Graduating in surgery and obstetrics in 1969, he was quickly confronted with the health reality of a country with a tropical forest, a hotbed of pathogens and the cradle of several emerging infectious diseases.

 

 

Appointed in 1998 as head of the National Institute for Biomedical Research (INRB) in Kinshasa, he made it an international reference center for emerging infectious diseases and initiated numerous scientific partnerships.

Professor Muyembe is widely recognized nationally and internationally. He has received numerous accolades, a courageous and laudable career that is the pride of the entire DRC.
