Reflection on Economic Development and Innovation at the University of Kinshasa

The economic development of the Democratic Republic of Congo was the central topic of a conference-debate at the University of Kinshasa this Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Chapiteau of this university establishment. Vital KAMERHE, President of the National Assembly, highlighted the immense economic potential of the DRC despite the persistent challenges of poverty and underdevelopment. The aim of this conference was to identify obstacles to development and propose solutions for a prosperous future.
Vital Kamerhe discussed the DRC's various economic trajectories since independence, emphasizing the urgent need to rethink development strategies. He advocated for a sustainable and inclusive economic model, emphasizing economic diversification and the transformation of natural resources to create added value and jobs. The importance of investing in human capital and social inclusion to ensure balanced development was also emphasized.
The need for cooperation between the government, the private sector, and the international community was highlighted for the implementation of this ambitious development model. During the conference, discussion sessions addressed various aspects, such as the analysis of past economic models, economic diversification, and resource mobilization for sustainable development.
In an interview with the Management Committee of the country's leading university, Vital KAMERHE encouraged Congolese universities to engage more with society to find solutions to real problems. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between scientists and the need to develop a development model specific to the DRC. The Rector of the eldest daughter of Congolese universities expressed his support for this initiative and emphasized the involvement of the inspired hill in finding solutions to national challenges, particularly in terms of security and food security.
Honorable Vital KAMERHE hosted this conference as the keynote speaker alongside members of the Government and Honorable Deputies of the National Assembly: Jean-Lucien BUSA, Julien Paluku, MOHINDO NZANGI and Désiré Cashmir KOLONGELE.
