The University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN) has once again distinguished itself among the flagships of knowledge in the Democratic Republic of Congo, by participating brilliantly
at the 1st Conclave of Congolese Scientific Engineering in 2023. Under the honorable leadership of the Rector, Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe, UNIKIN has confirmed its position as a major player in the scientific and technological field by obtaining at least one Gold Medal of Merit in Arts, Sciences and Letters. This prestigious distinction was awarded by the Chancellor of National Orders to one of its most promising talents, Doctoral Student Seke Vangu Max, industrial physicist and Head of Works at the University of Kinshasa.
Doctoral student Seke Vangu Max, supervised by his thesis supervisor, Professor Emeritus Edmond Phuku Phuati, a physicist, distinguished himself with his innovation: a low-carbon, less energy-intensive Portland cement compound. Developed in partnership with a network of cement manufacturers based in the DRC and international laboratories, this innovation represents a major step forward in the fight for sustainable development, meeting the needs of an environmentally friendly construction industry while reducing its carbon footprint.
This resounding success is a testament not only to the creative and scientific genius of the University of Kinshasa, but also to the visionary leadership of Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe, who has continually encouraged academic excellence and innovation.
The gold medal awarded to PhD student Seke Vangu Max reflects the importance of the exceptional scientific supervision provided by eminent figures such as Professor Emeritus Edmond Phuku Phuati, whose expertise largely contributed to the success of this cutting-edge research.
The University of Kinshasa, with its commitment to innovation and scientific development, continues to position itself as a key pillar of knowledge in Central Africa. Thanks to the dedication of its researchers, students, and leaders, it remains an international benchmark in research and
providing concrete solutions to the challenges of sustainable development. This new distinction reinforces UNIKIN's image as a beacon of innovation, preparing Congo for a brilliant scientific and technological future.
