Public defense of the thesis for aggregation in Medicine of Head of Works Gilbert KABANDA KURHENGA
This work, entitled “Target model for the care of sedentary soldiers of the Kinshasa garrison with and without high blood pressure: impact of physical exercise” was defended this Monday, January 6, 2025 in the Chapiteau of the University of Kinshasa by Head of Works Gilbert KABANDA KURHENGA. It explores the crucial issues related to cardiovascular health within the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC).
During this thesis defense, Head of Works Gilbert KABANDA KURHENGA highlighted the heavy burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) on military personnel, emphasizing the importance of combined antihypertensive treatment and the beneficial impact of physical training. His conclusions underscore the need for specific interventions to improve the health of military personnel.
The defense received a particular response thanks to the presence of dignitaries, including the First Lady of the Republic, Mrs. Denise NYAKERU TSHISEKEDI, and the Minister of Higher and University Education, Mrs. Marie-Thérèse SOMBO. The session was chaired by Professor Jean-Marie KAYEMBE NTUMBA, Rector of this Alma mater.
The recommendations made by the recipient are essential for the military health corps and the military hierarchy. He proposes making periodic medical check-ups a central point in the management of CVDs, fully operationalizing the Military Cardiovascular Excellence Center (CMECV) at Camp Lieutenant-Colonel KOKOLO as a pilot center, and planning and intensifying the training of military health personnel and cardiology equipment.
