The American Cultural Center offers UNIKIN more than 500 books written in English
In an effort to provide the libraries of higher education and university establishments in the DRC with works written in English, the American cultural center offered the University of Kinshasa, on Thursday, June 8, 2022, a batch of more than 500 books (around 300 titles) covering several fields.
It was the director of this center, François Djamba, who personally handed over this batch of books to the Secretary General in charge of research at UNIKIN, Professor Antoine Tshimpi Wola Yaba, representing the rector who was unable to attend. It was also in the presence of an advisor to the Minister of Higher and University Education (ESU), Beke Lofembe, who came to take part in a scientific activity at this establishment.
“We have a large batch of books. We thought we would donate these books to educational institutions in the DRC for their benefit. These books cover areas that fall within the scope of the mission of the United States Ambassador to the DRC. They relate to the fight against corruption, good governance, peace, democracy, entrepreneurship, management, economics, and related fields. There are many English books for the language faculty and those
related to pure sciences, mathematics, computer science, biology, chemistry and physics. There are also books on medicine and other fields" he said.
François Djamba pleaded for these books to be widely distributed and for them to significantly educate students in particular, and the Congolese in general, on good values, the foundations of human development.
For the advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Lofembe Beke, the delivery of these books is very important because it will significantly contribute to scientific research in the DRC. He believes that the fact that these books are written in English is a very good thing that will allow students of the "inspired hill," at all levels, to become familiar with this language, which has become essential for scientific research.
“The point of honor with this donation is that the majority of these books are in English. This will allow all students at our university to get used to reading works in English, which has become essential when it comes to research in the academic world. It is therefore a great joy on behalf of the Minister of Higher Education. We ask that these books not gather dust. That they be effectively displayed and made available to the beneficiaries." he pleaded.
For UNIKIN's Secretary General in charge of research, Antoine Tshimpi Wola Yaba, this batch of books arrived at the right time, given that UNIKIN is currently rejuvenating its libraries. He reassured the benefactors to make good use of them and ensure that these books effectively benefit students and other researchers in the country.
It should be noted that the American Cultural Center in the DRC conducts several activities to promote good values and the English language. In addition to its main headquarters in Kinshasa, the center currently has five branches throughout the DRC.
It has a branch at the Protestant University of Congo (UPC) in the Congolese capital, another in Goma, another at the Higher Institute of Commerce (ISC) in Matadi, in Kongo Central, another at the University of Kisangani (Unikis) and a final one at the Higher Institute of Education (ISP) in Lubumbashi, in Haut Katanga.
