UNIKIN at the Cultural and Artistic Center of Central Africa in Kinshasa: an inspiring immersion in the architecture and culture of Sino-Congolese cooperation

On Thursday, July 10, 2025, the delegation from the University of Kinshasa, led by the Cooperation and International Relations Unit, was amazed to discover the materialization of the deep ties that are being achieved through Sino-Congolese cooperation.

Welcomed on site by the engineer in charge of the site and members of a delegation from the Chinese Chancellery in the DRC, the Mulan scholarship students, the Confucius Institute-UNIKIN learners and their supervisors discovered an ultramodern infrastructure, the result of a partnership between the Democratic Republic of Congo and China, through the Chinese company Beijing Urban Construction Group. With an estimated cost of 100 million US dollars, the center impresses with its architecture, which subtly blends Congolese and Chinese influences, while highlighting local materials such as copper, wood, bamboo, etc.

Designed with an eco-responsible approach, the building incorporates a natural ventilation system, optimal lighting thanks to large openings, as well as a multifunctional interior garden, also serving as an exhibition space.

Visitors had the opportunity to explore the complex's two main halls: a large 2,000-seat theatre and a smaller 400-seat theatre, both equipped with cutting-edge technology, including integrated air conditioning under the seats, demonstrating the high level of technical standards and comfort sought.

"We were impressed by the level of excellence of this center. It is concrete proof that culture and technology can come together to create inspiring spaces for development," said one of the participating students.

Beyond the architectural discovery, this visit sparked reflections on the role of culture in sustainable development and on the importance of international cooperation in promoting modern cultural infrastructure in the DRC.
