Function: editorial work (40%), organisation of scientific events (20%) and research (40%)
Duration: 6 months, full-time (possibility of renewing for an additional 6 months)
Remuneration: 150,000 – 200,000 KES (after taxes) – based on experience.
Postdoc Researcher’s Tasks
1. Editorial work
IFRA-Nairobi manages two publications, a scientific journal—The East African Review—and a working paper series—Mambo!
The Postdoc Researcher will compile a rigorous review of articles submitted to IFRA, find suitable external peer reviewers, and manage timely communication with authors and reviewers.
2. Organisation of scientific events
IFRA-Nairobi is a vibrant platform to share research findings, train students on the scientific method of research and analysis in the social sciences, create interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary networks and exchanges, as well as to launch books, special issues and disseminate knowledge under any other form.
The Postdoc Researcher will organise scientific events on her/his own initiative and support the organisation of all other events.
3. Research
The Postdoc Researcher is invited to pursue her/his research interests and activities by conducting one fieldwork that IFRA will fully fund. The subject of research shall: be in line with the Institute’s research axes, be original and significant vis-à-vis both the existent literature but also societal issues. Also, the Postdoc Researcher will support the management of research program IFRA is already conducting.
Required skills
– PhD in humanities and social sciences;
– Excellent level of English (written and spoken); good knowledge of French is welcome;
– Excellent editorial skills, including proven capacity in evaluating scientific work.
– Outstanding skills in scientific writing and experience in publication (at least one published article);
– Excellent interpersonal skills, team spirit, proactivity and autonomy.
