Résumé

Abstract

Conclusion.

English title: Impact of COVID-19 on erectile function: a comparative study of a series of cases before and after recovery

Context & objective: Several authors have demonstrated the influence of COVID-19 on erectile function. In Sub-Saharan Africa, there is not enough information assessing the relationship between COVID-19 and erectile function. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on the erectile function of patients who were hospitalized and cured of COVID-19 in Kinshasa.

Methods: This descriptive study with analytical purposes took place within the COVID-19 Patient Treatment Center (CTC) of the Kinshasa University Hospital. The evaluation of erectile dysfunction (ED) was carried out on the basis of a survey form containing the IIEF-5 questionnaire.

Results: The average age of patients was 43 ± 14 years with extremes of 19 and 67 years. ED was present in 49.5% of patients before COVID-19 compared to 60.6% after recovery from COVID-19. Age, obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, alcohol and marital status were significantly associated with the onset of ED after COVID-19. In multivariate analysis, age ≥ 50 years, obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and alcohol consumption multiplied this risk respectively by 5; 3; 6; 6.1 and 8.

Conclusion: Patients with COVID-19 had a high prevalence of ED
