The Academic Secretary General is appointed by the Minister of Higher and University Education and Scientific Research from among the members of the University's academic staff for a renewable four-year term. The Academic Secretary General assists the Rector in the administration, supervision, and coordination of all academic and scientific services of the University. In this capacity, he ensures the implementation of the regulatory provisions of legal texts, the decisions of the University Council, the Management Committee, and the Rector, in particular with regard to:
- Recruitment, hiring, promotion and dismissal of academic and scientific staff.
- Admission and registration of students;
- Courses and timetables; course assignments and course progress;
- Knowledge control and the organization of examination sessions as well as the awarding of academic degrees;
- The functioning of the organs of the faculties, departments and research centers;
- The operation of Libraries, Museums and Collections;
- The operation of para-academic services.
The Academic Secretary General replaces the Rector in the event of absence or travel.
In carrying out his duties, the current Academic Secretary General is assisted by a cabinet composed of:

To ensure the division of tasks and the normal functioning of activities in the academic sector, five administrative Directorates under the Directorate of Academic Services are attached to the Academic General Secretariat and are led by the Directors Head of Service.
