Natural Hazards and Risk Management (2014-2024)
From the ECOM-ALGER Master to the One Health Institute for Africa
Kinshasa, May 28 to 30, 2024
National Institute of Biomedical Research
Launched in September 2014, the Master's in Ecology of Infectious Diseases, Natural Hazards and Risk Management (ECOM-ALGER) at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Kinshasa will be in existence for 10 years in 2024. This Master's operates at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Kinshasa, supported by the Department of Ecology and Control of Infectious Diseases.
In order to take stock of the last ten years of operation and look to the future, the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the ECOM-ALGER Master's will also be a framework for formalizing the transformation of the Service of Ecology and Control of Infectious Diseases (SECMI) into a One Health Institute for Africa (INOHA) within the University of Kinshasa.
This conference will provide an opportunity to discuss past, recent, ongoing and future research on socio-ecosystem health issues by addressing them through a “One Health” approach.
Through three scientific days organized in the form of conference debates with "Great Speakers" in plenary followed by round tables and thematic workshops, this conference aims, among other things, to explore avenues of operational innovations to efficiently tackle current and future challenges posed by the consequences of the evolution of the functioning of socio-ecosystems.
The thematic conferences for the second day will be selected by the scientific committee based on responses to the calls for papers.
The special scientific exchange day on a cruise on the Congo River will be an opportunity to consolidate the suggestions of all the experts gathered around the scientific committee of the conference for the development of the Master of Ecology of Infectious Diseases, Natural Hazards and Risk Management towards a One Health Institute for Africa.
