The University of Kinshasa in the era of international collaboration beyond traditional avenues

Since Friday, August 25, 2023, the University of Kinshasa, the largest university in Central Africa, has welcomed a visiting professor from the prestigious Makerere University in Uganda. This is Professor Twaha Ali Basamba Ateenyi, a water quality specialist, who has come for a two-month stay at the Regional Water School in
The University of Kinshasa, as part of the Intra-African Academic Mobility Program in Water Resources. This program brings together five partner universities to help increase scientific and professional capacity in sustainable water resources management in Africa. These are the University of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rhodes University in South Africa, Makerere University in Uganda, the Federal University of Technology Minna in Nigeria, the National School of Hydraulics in Algeria, and the Technical University of Delft in Holland.
During his stay, Professor Twaha Ali Basamba Ateenyi will be responsible for teaching courses related to Water Quality and Environmental Management, and will supervise the research work of Master's and Doctoral students at the Regional Water School of the University of Kinshasa. Upon his arrival at the University of Kinshasa, he
was received by the Rector of the University, Professor Jean Marie Kayembe Ntumba, who assured him of the support of the University of Kinshasa for continued collaboration with Makerere University in Uganda. He was then received by the Academic Secretary General of the University of Kinshasa, Professor Eustache Mbanza, and the Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Professor Charles Kinkela. He also visited water quality laboratories at the University of Kinshasa.

Reception by the SGA of UNIKIN

As a reminder, Professor Twaha Ali Basamba Ateenyi holds a Master's degree in Natural Resource Management from the Norwegian University of Agriculture in 1998, and a Doctorate degree in Soil and Water Sciences from the same University in 2005. He is currently a Professor at the College of Agriculture and Environment at Makerere University in Uganda. He is the author and co-author of around a hundred scientific publications, and the initiator of several research projects in the field of water, natural resource management and climate change, including the recent project on "Climate Smart Agricultural Technologies in Sub Saharan Africa" funded by NORAD to the tune of two million US dollars for the period 2016-2021.
