The University of Kinshasa celebrated the closing of the 2023-2024 academic year on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, with the conferral of Academic Degrees for more than 1,819 graduates from various fields of study. The ceremony was held at the Chapiteau du Plateau des Étudiants, in the presence of numerous academic and government figures.
In his speech, Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe Ntumba, Rector of the university, highlighted several notable student achievements, such as the electrification of the university campus, the anti-erosion biological control project, and the creation of a green wall made of Chinese bamboo. He also praised the Cerebro project, led by Engineer Pierre Sedi, a former student of the Faculty of Polytechnic, who won first prize at the first edition of the African Youth Competition in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.
The Rector also discussed the future challenges the institution will face, including the digitalization of academic, financial and administrative management, as well as the need for a new generation of researchers and wealth creation.
Professor Charles ODIKO, Academic Secretary General, presented a general report on the state of the academic sector, as did the head of research, Professor Marie-Claire YANDJU, who also presented the report concerning her sector.
Mr. Hugues Musumbu, representing the laureates, encouraged his comrades to fly the flag for their Alma mater and called on former students of the University of Kinshasa to actively support their institution.
