The Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN), in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), organized, Thursday, in the Monekosso auditorium, a conference on " the organization and roles of the IMF, in general, and on the IMF-supported program of the DRC government, in particular ".
The main moderator of this conference and resident representative of the IMF in the DRC, Gabriel Leost, indicated that the objectives of the government program supported by this international institution, aim to maintain macroeconomic stability by promoting sustainable and inclusive growth to reduce poverty.
To this end, he said, the aim is to increase the budgetary space by mobilizing revenues and controlling expenditures, improving the monetary policy framework and the development of the financial sector, as well as strengthening governance and the fight against corruption.
The speaker welcomed the initial results achieved by the DRC in this program in 2021, in terms of stabilization and a knock-on effect for other financing.
But there are many challenges to be overcome, he argued, for a central objective of promoting inclusive growth with concrete positive aspects for the population of the DRC.
He recalled the visit to Kinshasa on December 7 and 8, 2022, of the IMF CEO who expressed the willingness to continue supporting the DRC because of the performances achieved.
The Rector of UNIKIN, Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe, and the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management of UNIKIN, Professor Emile Ngoy Kasongo, also Director General at ISC/KIN, welcomed the holding of this conference, which is beneficial for the country and for students.
