LE DÉBAT broadcast, Top Congo, on living and study conditions at UNIKIN in the presence of the Management Committee

The Rector of the University of Kinshasa, Professor Dr. Jean-Marie KAYEMBE NTUMBA, accompanied by the Secretary General for Research Professor Antoine TSHIMPI, representing the management committee in a Special Broadcast on January 10, 2023 in the Promotions Room live on Top Congo FM from 11:30 a.m. to 1:35 p.m. responded to the concerns and questions of the students present in the Room and listeners of this radio station who sent messages by telephone.

Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe, who has been at the helm of UNIKIN for a year and a half, reassures that "our management committee is willing to listen to everything. We have a general assembly in which all bodies are represented. We also organized the university's general assembly. This allowed us to tell each other the truth."

“We have placed the student at the center of our concerns. Meetings are organized from time to time with students. There is representation, including the student delegation, class leaders, and others.”

UNIKIN is apolitical

“We reiterate to our students that the university website is apolitical. However, university students can engage in political activity. However, they cannot display their political affiliations at the university. Sanctions are in place,” warns the UNIKIN rector.

Regarding the degrees many politicians obtain from UNIKIN, he asks: "Which politician has already graduated from UNIKIN a year ago? Isn't a politician allowed to study? But our management committee doesn't give out degrees for free."

Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe insists that "we are fighting to be a university of ethics and integrity. We have even strengthened the requirements for obtaining degrees. We even have anti-plagiarism software. We are very vigilant. We are all fighting against anti-values."

Several challenges

“We face many challenges. Our university is 60 years old. Some of its buildings were repainted 30 years ago. But we want infrastructure and good teaching conditions. That's the fight we're fighting. There are many difficulties right now,” acknowledges the UNIKIN rector.

“Back then, students received scholarships. Today, we rely on parents' contributions through tuition. There are many challenges, and we are fighting to overcome them.”

To achieve this, Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe speaks in particular of "administrative governance and financial governance. We have decided to digitize all of these management processes. We are fighting to improve the management of our students."
