UNIKIN Represented at the 2026 Association of African Universities Media Masterclass in Accra

The University of Kinshasa took part in the Media Masterclass organized by the Association of African Universities (AAU) from 7 to 11 September 2026 in Accra, Ghana. This five-day event, dedicated to strengthening the capacities of communication professionals from African higher education institutions, was held under the theme: “Building Powerful University Brands Through Strategic Content and Academic Storytelling.”
One of the main objectives of this Masterclass was to strengthen the skills of university communication professionals, enabling them to better promote the image, achievements, scientific research, and impact of their institutions among various audiences.
The University of Kinshasa was represented by Jérémie KUNIMA KAPUKU, Communications Officer and Press Attaché to the Rector, who was designated by the Rector, Professor Jean-Marie KAYEMBE NTUMBA, to take part in the event held at the AAU Secretariat in Accra.
Throughout the five days of training, several aspects of institutional communication were addressed. The first day focused in particular on university brand identity, the analysis of brand perception, institutional positioning, as well as the development of a consistent visual and communication identity.
The participants then worked on designing a university content ecosystem, with particular emphasis on identifying editorial pillars, planning content in line with the academic calendar, and preparing campaigns related notably to admissions and graduation ceremonies.
Significant attention was also given to scientific research communication. The sessions explored techniques for transforming sometimes complex research into content accessible to the general public, identifying storytelling angles, conducting interviews with researchers, and producing short audiovisual content suited to digital media.
The training also included practical sessions devoted to content production using a mobile phone, adapting formats to different digital platforms, as well as developing a media action plan for academic institutions. The programme concluded with group presentations, an evaluation, feedback from the facilitators, and the awarding of certificates to participants.
The University of Kinshasa’s participation in this Masterclass provides an opportunity to capitalize on new approaches to the implementation of its institutional communication.
It also opens up prospects for the development of more dynamic digital formats, particularly short videos highlighting the University of Kinshasa’s research, innovations, partnerships, academic journeys, and various achievements.
