On October 30, 2024, the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN) awarded Professor Dr. KOENRAAD DEVRIENDT an Honorary Degree, a distinction that recognizes his outstanding contributions to the field of education and health in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This honor was presented in recognition of his unwavering commitment to the restoration of higher education, research, and the training of academic and clinical elites, as well as his dedication to the community, particularly in the field of human genetics.
Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe Ntumba, Rector of UNIKIN, praised Professor Devriendt Koenraad's efforts during an interview. He highlighted his love for the DRC and his commitment to the university, as well as his significant contributions, including his participation in the creation of the Rare Disease Center at the University Clinics of Kinshasa. This initiative is crucial for the establishment of a more inclusive healthcare system and for strengthening healthcare capacity in an often neglected area in Africa.
Professor DEVRIENDT's contributions to the DRC are numerous:
