In collaboration with PMI (Vectorlink) and PNLP RDC, the following activities are carried out by BIOLAV:
- Breeding of susceptible mosquito strains Anopheles "KISUMU strain" and Aedes "Rockefeller strain" from the Republic of Benin (These mosquitoes are completely susceptible to insecticides used in public health and serve as reference strains for tests recommended by the World Health Organization)
- Breeding and colonization in a controlled environment of strains of wild field mosquitoes (Anopheles spp, Aedes spp, Culex spp etc.) with a particular focus on the dynamics of their bioecology.
- Morphological identification of Culicidae (Mosquitoes) and other arthropod vectors (imaginal and preimaginal forms)
- Evaluation of the sensitivity of mosquitoes to insecticides used in Public Health (Tests of insecticides, larvicides and repellents)
- Evaluation of the bio-efficacy of insecticide-treated mosquito nets (cone test and tunnel test)
- Mosquito infectivity assay (ELISA/CSP)
- Characterization of Anopheles larval breeding sites
Molecular characterization of the main malaria vectors circulating in Kinshasa.
