Conference-debate on the theme: “Why not women?”

As part of the activities organized at the University of Kinshasa during the month of March, Women's Rights Month, theAssociation of Women Engineers of Unikin held a conference-debate on the theme: "Why not the woman?".

In his opening remarks, the Rector of Unikin, the Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe Ntumba, thanked the organizers of this activity and especially Mrs. the Budget Administrator of Unikin, the Professor Yvonne Nduagani Masika, for its perceptible support. The Representative of the Dean of the Faculty of Oil, Gas and Renewable Energies (PGER) was delighted with the women engineers trained in his Faculty. The President of the Forum of Women Engineers, Mrs. Priscillia Malanji, noted the synergy of forces in the completion of this project.

Three high-quality presentations enlivened this conference:

  1. “Equality today for a sustainable future” by the Professor Yvonne Nduagani Masika. She explored the trilogy of Woman-Motherhood-Career. Women are not limited to the role of mothers; rather, they must contribute to society through work (talents, skills), innovation, and procreation.
  2. “Promotion of equal opportunities and representation in the professional world” by Engineer Daniella MulasiShe advocated the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women through the involvement of politicians in the defense of women's rights.
  3. “Women face competitiveness and challenges in the field of applied sciences” by the Professor Joséphine NtumbaShe noted that research requires a lot of sacrifices but that women are often stuck with cultural stereotypes, motherhood and performance levels.

The question and answer session sparked very heated debates that left no one indifferent.

The Minister of Gender and Student Coordination, Mrs. Stephanie Tshibola, gave his appreciation for the day's activity while encouraging students to send their social projects as a contribution to the Unikin-solution. The Faculty Delegate of PGER, Mr. Bakuba, expressed his pride in the women of his Faculty.

In his closing remarks, the Rector of Unikin encouraged the secondary school students (Rehobot School Complex and Mont Amba School Group) present at this conference to take up the challenges of the future.
