University youth at the heart of the peace process in the DRC: Patrick MUYAYA mobilizes at UNIKIN

The Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick MUYAYA, led a conference-debate this Wednesday, July 23, 2025 in the Chapiteau of the University of Kinshasa, focused on the theme: "At the heart of the pacification process of the DRC: understanding in order to act, the appropriation of the Congolese narrative by young people for the construction of a lasting peace." The main objective was to enable Congolese university youth to appropriate the foundations, mechanisms and strategic issues of the peace agreement signed between the DRC and Rwanda, from a perspective of civic responsibility and narrative sovereignty.
Before a large audience of professors, academics, and students, the Minister made a strong call for civic engagement. He emphasized the need for young people to take action after 31 years of conflict that have profoundly affected the country.

Patrick MUYAYA presented five key diplomatic milestones in the pacification process in the east of the country, culminating in the signing of the DRC-Rwanda peace agreement on June 27, 2025, while emphasizing that these advances will remain insufficient without youth ownership. He advocated for the Congolese themselves to reclaim the national narrative, denouncing biased representations of the DRC conveyed internationally. He urged students to become agents of change, going beyond mere academic commentary. In response to students' frustrations regarding their lack of visibility, the Minister proposed the creation of platforms for citizen expression, particularly through the university radio station Alma Mater. Speaking, UNIKIN Rector Professor Jean-Marie KAYEMBE NTUMBA reaffirmed the university's commitment to taking the lead in the fight for lasting peace by mobilizing young people around this national cause.

Jérémie KUNIMA, Rectorate.
