Working session of heads of higher education and university establishments in the city-province of Kinshasa with the delegation of the Inter-University Council of East Africa (IUCEA)
The hall of the academic senate Mgr Maurice Plevoets hosted this Thursday, September 8, 2022, a working session of the Heads of higher education and university establishments of the city-province of Kinshasa with the delegation of Inter-University Council of East Africa, IUCEA in acronym.
Speaking, the Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe Ntumba, Rector of the University of Kinshasa and President of the conference of heads of establishments of the ESU of the city province of Kinshasa, proceeded to the presentation of the postcard of these establishments for which he noted the missions, the vision, the state of the governance indicators, the challenges of the higher education system, the exit routes and the priority axes of the recovery strategy. In addition to public establishments, some private institutions were also present, reference made to the UPC (Protestant University in Congo) and the UCC (Catholic University in Congo).
For his part, the Executive Secretary of the IUCEA, the Professor Gaspard Banyankimbona, gave a brief presentation introducing the IUCEA. The following points were covered: the East African Community (Burundi, DRC, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda), the main stages in the historical evolution of the IUCEA, the missions and vision, the legal and operational frameworks, the joint declaration of higher education, scholarships, project funding… Indeed, the IUCEA is a strategic institution of the East African Community responsible for coordinating the development of higher education and research in the region with a policy of student mobility, mobility of academic staff, quality assurance in higher education, … It should be noted that the DRC officially joined the Community of East African States on March 29, 2022. It becomes the 7th member.
After discussions between the parties present, a final statement was read by the moderator. Professor Nadège Gombe Kabamba sanctioned the completion of this work. This involves the adoption of the membership of higher education institutions in the city-province of Kinshasa to the Inter-University Council of East Africa. They are ready to work with the Inter-University Council of East Africa with a view to contributing to the common area of higher and university education.
After the family photo, the delegation visited the Museum of Anthropology and the virtual library of the Faculty of Medicine.
